Balmoral Beach House

Home Page The Balmoral Beach House - Due for completion mid 2019 The Balmoral Beach House is a contemporary interpretation of the city beach house located 250m from Balmoral Beach. Elevated above the road, the house engages with the nature reserve that is opposite the house and glimpses of trees and ocean can be had throughout the house. Charred black timber cladding is juxtaposed against warm spotted gum ceilings and screens which results in a house that has a strong sense of place and connection to land. Although not heritage listed building, much of the original brick bungalow has been retained and many of the internal features reused. The result is that the house has a strong sense of connection to its past. Although so much of the structure is new, the house is embedded with time and memory. This alternation to an 1920’s brick beach bungalow is a bold yet sensitive intervention along the street.
